I am a family law specialist and Head of Family Law in the highly regarded national firm of Mills & Reeve. I have over 35 years’ experience in advising on family law issues. I am a trained collaborative lawyer and have been a member of the family law association Resolution since the very early days. I was North West chairman in the late 80’s and early 90’s, before joining the national committee in 1991, when I chaired its mediation committee. I was national chairman in the mid 90’s and led the organisation through the high profile and politically sensitive passage of the Family Law Act 1996, that would have introduced no fault divorce and which resulted in widespread media and public debate. I was elected Chair for two years again in 2016,  the only person to hold the role twice!

My reputation has been built on my handling of complex financial cases, often involving difficult issues around trusts, businesses and pensions, although not all of my work is high value. I also have expertise in marital agreements. I am a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (IAML) a world-wide organisation of family law specialists chosen by their peers for their national and international expertise and reputation. An increasing amount of my work involves an international angle. I write and lecture widely on family law issues and I am asked regularly to comment in the print and broadcast media. I divide my time primarily between London and Manchester but have clients across the country and abroad.
