James specialises in complex matrimonial finance issues, including pre-nuptial contracts. He acts in a wide range of domestic and international cases at all levels of wealth, and has considerable experience of cases involving complex corporate and trust structures, internationally held assets, significant inherited and family wealth and complex tax as well as insolvency related issues. He also has experience of international forum shopping and a wide range of domestic and international enforcement issues.
James has acted in numerous complex and big money cases, both reported and not, including several leading cases. He appears frequently in the Family Court at the Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Family Court, and elsewhere around the country. James has appeared in several cases in the Court of Appeal and has represented clients at private FDRs, round-table meetings and in arbitrations. James was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2016 and is instructed both alone and with juniors from QEB and other chambers.
James is ranked in Chambers and Partners 2019, which has previously quoted: “James can cut through a brief to identify the magic number for settlement in lightning-quick time. I am a busy silk specialising in family disputes with an international element. My cases usually involve international families with disputes about jurisdiction, money and child welfare I am a member of chamber’s money and international children groups. I have represented clients in the UKSC, CJEU and Court of Appeal. I sit as a deputy High Court Judge and recorder in the family court where I am allocated to hear Financial Remedy Appeals.
