As well as being a Children Scheme Arbitrator, Zen has been a family law solicitor for over 20 years and is also a family and civil mediator. Zen is a member of the Law Society Family Panel, an accredited member of the Law Society Family Mediation Panel, an assessor for the Law Society, and a member of Resolution, the Family Mediation Council and the Civil Mediation Council. He is a Resolution Accredited specialist in Complex Financial Remedies and Private Children Law. As a collaborative lawyer, Zen is a member of the Hertfordshire and Cambridge groups for collaborative lawyers and mediators. As a mediator, Zen is specially qualified to meet children in mediation, known as Child Inclusive Mediation or Direct Child Consultation. In this role, Zen has met with children on numerous occasions.

As a family law solicitor, Zen has a wide experience of dealing with children matters, and has represented clients successfully as advocate at several final hearings on children matters, so has a good understanding of how children matters are looked at by the Court. Zen sees the benefits of Children Arbitration as providing a legally binding outcome provided by a named legal specialist in children matters who deals with the matter throughout at a time and place convenient to the parties.
